Softball Defeats Vermont, 6-4, But Edged by Hartford, 3-2

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team defeated Vermont, 6-4, and was edged, 3-2,  in a tight game versus Hartford.

In the first game of the day, Ali Keltos (Shelton, CT/Lauralton Hall) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead FDU's offense, which had 10 hits in the win.

Fairleigh Dickinson jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first inning after Dana Myers (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) singled and Keltos doubled her home. Hope Hilman (Bremerton, WA/Olympic) shot out a single to plate Keltos and a single from Caitlyn Reuter (Richwood, NJ/Clearview Regional) pushed Hilman across the plate.

Vermont started a comeback, putting one on the board in the third inning and one in the fourth.

In the sixth inning, Kristen Coughlan led off with single, was advanced by a sacrifice hit from Justina Augustine. Coughlan was sent home on a double from Jennifer Boldman (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven) to make the score 5-4.

The Knights picked up another run and sealed the win as Keltos led off with double and went to third on a wild pitch. She was brought home by Hilman's sacrifice fly.

Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) got the win, on the mound for the Knights for the complete game.

In the second game, FDU was edged in a close game, 3-2, to Hartford. Trina Fields took the loss, striking out five.

Hartford opened scoring, putting a run on the board in the bottom of the first inning.

In the top of the third inning, the Knights responded as Meghan Doherty (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) singled and was moved over on a sacrifice hit from Myers. A hit from Keltos moved her to third and Lindsay Glidden's patience at the plate earned her a walk and put the Knights on the scoreboard.

In the fifth inning, Hartford added a pair of runs. Coughlan led things off for the Knights in the sixth as she led off with a single and was advanced when pinch hitter Augustine was hit by a pitch. Boldman advanced her with a sacrifice and Myers pushed her across the plate.

Coughlan was-2 for-3 with one run scored and Keltos was 2-for-4. Myers was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice and one RBI.  Doherty went 1-for-2 with a walk and one run scored. The Knights recorded two runs on eight hits while Hartford posted three runs on seven hits.
