Baseball Falls at Appalachian State, 9-2

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team lost, 9-2, versus home-standing Appalachian State University, Sunday, March 11 in Hickory, NC. Junior outfielder John Paganotti (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) (Staten Island, NY) tallied a two-hit afternoon to pace the Knights (4-3).

 

FDU jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the second inning as sophomore catcher Mark Morton (Coral Springs, FL/Grandview Prep) (Coral Springs, FL) deposited a double into left field and junior infielder Luis Rosario (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) (Bronx, NY) ? who singled to right centerfield to start the frame ? scored following an error on the play.

 

The Knights seized a 2-0 advantage in the following inning, as sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY) scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA).

 

However, the Mountaineers (10-6) tied the game in the bottom of the frame, staging a two-out rally. A five-run outburst in the fifth ? the result of three hits and two walks ? sealed the game.

 

Sophomore southpaw John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) (Mount Holly, NJ) suffered his first loss of the season going 4.2 innings. Sophomore right-hander Nick Blanco (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) (Bronx, NY) hurled 3.1 innings, sitting down four.

 

The Knights travel to Durham, NC at 3:00 p.m. for a two-game series versus Duke University, Tuesday, March 13.
