Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Appalachian State

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team split a twin bill at L.P. Frans Stadium on the campus of Appalachian State University, Saturday, March 10 in Boone, NC. The Knights (4-2) fell, 11-4, in the opener, but rebounded to post a 4-2 victory in the second contest.

In game one, a four-run bottom of the seventh inning by the Mountaineers (9-5) put the game away. Senior outfielder Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) (North Bergen, NJ) smacked a two-run dinger in the ninth frame, en route to a 3-for-4 showing at the plate.

Sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY) went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while freshman Corey Jeffers (Woodbine, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) (Woodbine, NJ) notched his first collegiate hit and RBI.

Senior right-hander Stephen Eng (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY) took the loss, allowing three earned runs in six innings of work.

In the nightcap, lefty John O'Hara (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY) improved to 2-0 in as many starts, on the strength of a complete-game, six-hitter, where the junior fanned three.

Medina went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA) notched two hits and an RBI. Junior outfielder John Paganotti (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) (Staten Island, NY) hit a pair of doubles, including a two-out RBI in the seventh frame.

Freshman infielder Patrick Furey (Ponoma, NY/North Rockland) (Ponoma, NY) collected two hits, while senior outfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY) was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
