Women's Soccer Shuts Down Sacred Heart, 2-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team shut out Sacred Heart University, 2-0, Sunday, Oct. 28 in Fairfield, CT.  Sophomore Emma Howes (Avalon Beach, Sydney, Australia/Barranjoey) (Avalon Beach, Sydney, Australia) tallied the game-winner in the 29th minute off an assist by senior defender Amanda Wheeler (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) (Marlton, NJ), as the Knights advanced to 4-3 in the Northeast Conference and 6-10 overall.

 

In the 79th minute, junior midfielder Emma Yamada (/LaSalle Academy) (Saunderstown, RI) capitalized on a long run down the left side, with sophomore midfielder Christine Niven (/Middleboro) (Middleboro, MA) assisting.

 

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Derrico (/Canon McMillan) (Canonsburg, PA) recorded seven saves in the win.

 

“This is a good win ? we played well,” Head Coach Renee Montana said.  “We played smart, were composed and never quit.  I'm proud of how we stayed together to get the job done.”

 

The Pioneers dipped to 2-2-3 in NEC action and 2-11-4 overall.


Fairleigh Dickinson hosts Central Connecticut State University at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 in Teaneck, NJ.
