The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell to visiting Sacred Heart University, 10-5, at FDU Field on Saturday, May 20. Senior first baseman Ben Cass (Warwick, NY) and junior right fielder Vincente Medina (North Bergen, NJ) homered for the Knights who finished the season 10-42 and 6-18 in the Northeast Conference.
The Pioneers (23-28, 14-9 NEC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead, plating a run in the third inning and added two more in the fifth.
FDU made it a one-run contest in the fifth, as junior centerfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY) slapped a two-run single through the right side.
Cass shifted the Knights ahead in the bottom of the sixth, smoking a two-run home run to centerfield, bringing around senior second baseman Matt Born (Saskatoon, Canada) who was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
Medina's blast over the left-centerfield fence in the eighth made it a 9-5 ball game.
Senior starter Rick Franceschi (Franklinville, NJ) hurled six innings, fanning five. The right-hander scattered seven hits, yielding two earned runs, en route to a no decision.
Cass, Grabowski, Medina and freshman second baseman TJ Pilla (Lawrenceville, GA) tallied two hits a piece.
Sacred Heart first baseman Bobby McKee paced the Pioneers' offense with three doubles and three RBI. Third baseman Tim Lantz chipped in three hits and left fielder Dave Kaloyanides tallied two hits and two RBI.
Before the game, Head Coach Jerry DeFabbia and Director of Athletics David Langford honored Fairleigh Dickinson's four departing seniors on the Knights' Senior Day.
