Baseball Falls to Hofstra, 16-4, on Wednesday

TEANECK, NJ - The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team lost to visiting Hofstra University, 16-4, on Wednesday, May 10 at FDU Field. The Knights (9-37) were out-hit 15-6 by The Pride (23-29-1) in the second game of a home-and-home series.

FDU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second-inning when right fielder Vincente Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) lined a one-out base hit through the right side. The junior swiped second and two pitches later, stole third. Sophomore shortstop Jovan Santos (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Malloy) (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Malloy) drove in the first run of the ball game with a single up the middle.

Hofstra plated 16-unanswered runs, highlighted by a seven-run fifth inning where shortstop Josh Stern (Millwood, NY/Horace Greeley) connected on a three-run homer to left. The Pride chased the Knights' starting pitcher Adam Vogel (/Harrison) (Cleves, OH/Harrison) after three innings of work.

Freshman Matt Maltese (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) hurled four innings of relief without yielding an earned run.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored three runs in the eighth as freshman catcher Vincent Pennacchio (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) began the frame with a single to centerfield, marking his first collegiate hit. Senior catcher Matt Born (/) (Saskatoon, Canada/Bedford Road Collegiate) picked up the only RBI of the inning with a groundout. The Knights host Mount St. Mary's University at noon on Saturday, May 13 for a Northeast Conference doubleheader.
