Baseball Falls to Central Connecticut, 6-4, on Sunday

TEANECK, NJ - The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision to Central Connecticut State University on Sunday, April 30 at FDU Field. The Knights (8-31, 5-13 NEC) scored four runs after in the bottom of the third inning, sending eight batters to the plate.

Fairleigh Dickinson trailed 5-0 after two innings, but went on the offensive in the third frame. Freshman designated hitter Mark Morton (Coral Springs, FL/Grandview Prep) led off the inning, doubling to right-center field. Freshman third baseman Brian Luchsinger (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) - who paced the offense with two hits - followed with an RBI single back through the box.

Freshman left fielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) placed a liner down the right field line for FDU's second run. Senior first baseman Ben Cass (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) drew the Knights within one at 5-4, capping off the rally with a base knock to plate two runs.

Junior right-hander Stephen Eng (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) threw four innings in relief of freshman lefty John Meadus (Mount Holly, NJ/Holy Cross). Eng allowed three hits, one a solo shot to shortstop Sean Salvatore (Southington, CT/Southington)in the sixth that provided the Blue Devils (24-12, 10-5 NEC) with an insurance run.

Adam Piechowski (Windstead, CT/The Gilbert School) hurled a complete-game for CCSU, striking out eleven.

The Knights travel to Rutgers University 2 p.m. for a twin bill on Wednesday, May 3.
