The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team lost, 7-3, at Monmouth University on Monday, April 24 at MU Baseball Field. The Knights (8-27, 5-10 NEC) held the lead twice, before a four-run eighth inning sealed the Hawks' (23-11, 12-0 NEC) win.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first frame when senior first baseman Ben Cass singled through the left side, driving home senior second baseman Matt Born.
After Monmouth tied the contest in the bottom half of the first, sophomore shortstop Jovan Santos led off the second inning by depositing a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence. Junior center fielder Chris Grabowski hammered a two-out double to right centerfield, followed by freshman third baseman Jeff Vincent pushing FDU ahead, 3-1, with an RBI single.
Senior right-hander Rick Franceschi hurled six innings, fanning six, en route to a no decision.
Santos collected two hits, while Cass and Vincent reached base twice.
The Knights travel to intra-state foe Seton Hall University for a twin bill at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.
