The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's basketball team (17-8, 13-2 NEC) will look to extend its' 11-game winning streak, which ranks fourth nationally, when it completes a stretch of three road games in three different states in five days. The game features two of the top three teams in the Northeast Conference standings as Monmouth is 10-4 in conference play, in a tie for second in the league, and is scheduled to be televised live on MSG-TV.
This is the 55th meeting between the two teams, who will turn around and play each other again at the Rothman Center to close out the regular season on Feb. 27. The Knights lead the all-time series, 30-24, and each team won on the road in a pair of meetings last season.
The Knights started the week on a good note with an 85-76 win at Sacred Heart on Thursday night. Senior Chad Timberlake led FDU in the win, recording 27 points on 8-of-9 shooting. FDU then traveled to Wisconsin for a BracketBuster by eBay pool contest at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where they won a thriller, 68-64, on the heroics of junior Michael Peeples (Detroit, MI/Benedictine)' clutch pair of steals along with the final four points of the game.
NEC Two-time Player of the Week Timberlake's 15.5 points per game lead Fairleigh Dickinson and rank fifth in the conference. The current NEC Player of the Week, senior Gordon Klaiber, is right behind him after a late-season spurt, averaging 15.0 ppg, sixth in the conference. Junior Andrea Crosariol is adding 10.5 ppg and leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per game. He is first in the conference in both field goal percentage (61.7%) and blocks (2.88 bpg).
The Knights are 8-6 on the road this season.
Monmouth, who won the NEC regular season title last year, is coming off a win against Wagner College, 61-55, on Monday evening. The Hawks have won four of their last fives games. Dejan Delic leads the Hawks, averaging 12.2 points per game. Marquee Alston is chipping in 11.3 points per game and John Bunch averages a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game.
The Knights are 290-211 against current Northeast Conference members.
