The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer topped visiting Wagner College, 2-1, Sunday, Oct. 8 at University Field in Teaneck, NJ. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Bellini (/St. Thoma Aquinas) (Tamarac, FL/St Thomas Aquinas) tallied the game-winner in the 63rd minute, depositing a ball from the top of the box into the lower left corner of the goal.
Bellini's second goal of the season ? a right-footed placement ? broke a 1-1 tie and improved the Knights to 2-9-1 on the season and 1-3 in Northeast Conference action.
FDU took a 1-0 advantage in the 32nd minute when freshman forward Liza Offreda (/Midland Park) (East Rutherford, NJ/Midland Park) headed a service from freshman midfielder Jennifer Arceneaux (/Ralston Valley) (Arvada, CO/Ralston valley) under the crossbar. However, nine minutes later, Wagner (0-12, 0-3 NEC) midfielder Christina Poliseno (Garden City, NJ/Garden City) redirected a cross from midfielder Lizzie Wood (Boca Raton, FL/St. Andrews) into the back of the net from close range.
Fairleigh Dickinson peppered the Seahawks defense, registering 24 shots in the contest, hitting the crossbar twice, as well as each post. The Knights also had two goals called back following penalties inside the six-yard box.
“Today we created a lot of opportunities and need to find a way to finish,” Head Coach Renee Montana said after collecting her first career conference victory. “We set the goal of playing competitively for 90 minutes. I'm proud of the way we came back in the second-half to take the game back.”
Senior goalkeeper Kyla Clark (/Notre Dame/Univ. of Texas - El Paso) (Ottawa, Ontario/Univ. of Texas ? El Paso) stopped eight shots in 90 minutes to earn the win. Wagner's Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL.Satellite) made 10 saves on the afternoon.
The Knights host Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14 at University Field.
