The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team lost to visiting Long Island University, 3-1, Friday, Oct. 6 at University Field. Freshman defender Katie Hilder (Caringbah, Sydney, Australia/Woolooware) (Caringbah, Australia/Woolooware) scored the Knights' (1-9-1, 0-3-0 NEC) lone goal via a free kick from 25 yards out with eight seconds remaining in the contest.
Caley Troutman (South Park, PA/South Park) netted two goals to spark a second-half surge for the Blackbirds (5-6-1). The junior forward converted two corner opportunities for LIU, striking for the game-winning header in the 65th minute and booted her second tally in the 78th minute. Midfielders Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) and Tiffany Dunbar (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) both collected assists via their corner services.
“We came out strong in the first-half and battled with them,” Head Coach Renee Montana said. “In the second-half we couldn't find the net. We saw some good things and developed some confidence, so we'll continue to build on that.”
The Knights host Wagner at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8 at University Field.
