The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team (4-6) fell in three games in its' home opener to visiting Iona on Wednesday evening. The Gaels improve to 1-6 on the season after winning 30-19, 30-26 and 30-25.
Freshman Lauren Boothby (Glen Gardner, NJ) led the Knights with eight kills and a .294 attack percentage, while sophomore Elena Schmidt (Nevada City, CA) and freshman Megan Philbrick (Seabrook, MD) each contributed seven kills. Sophomore Ruth Levy (Cary, NC) recorded 26 assists, Schmidt had three aces and senior Justine Muzones (Secaucus, NJ) and sophomore Lauren Lombardo (New Castle, PA) had 12 digs apiece. Sophomore Rebecca Tenney (Yorktown, VA) led the defense with five blocks.
Two Gaels had double-digit kills, with sophomore Kristin Allain's (Orlando, FL) 12 leading the team. Senior Miki Hogg (Sun Prairie, WI) notched 11 kills. Freshman Alyssa Morales (Vista, CA) had 19 assists and junior Beth Holly (Gahanna, OH) recorded 12. Senior Chelsea White (Cameron Park, CA) had 15 digs.
The Knights are back in action at the Toledo Tournament, facing Youngstown State at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 16, followed by St. Francis PA at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 17, Fairleigh Dickinson matches up with Chicago State at 10:00 a.m. and host Toledo at 3:00 p.m.
