Women's Basketball Drops Friday's Game at Princeton, 88-51

PRINCETON, NJ - The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team fell victim to the hot outside shooting of Princeton University on Friday night in Jadwin Gymnasium, losing 88-51.

Sophomore point guard Megan Kirkland sparked the Knights offense in the first-half with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Head Coach Sandy Gordon's floor leader implemented a half-court, pressure defense to pilfer three steals in the opening 20 minutes. Kirkland finished the night with nine points and three rebounds.

Junior forward Mercedez Walker played strong in the paint posting nine points and five blocks, while hauling down seven rebounds.

However, Princeton's post trio of center Becky Brown and forwards Megan Cowher and Casey Lockwood all tallied double-digit point totals. Brown notched 18 points and eight rebounds, while Cowher netted 14 points and eight rebounds. Lockwood contributed 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Knights stayed strong on defense, collecting 12 steals, compared to the Tigers' eight and also recorded seven blocks to Princeton's three.

Sophomore guard Shanay Freeman shot well from outside, connecting on 3-of-6 field goals for six points in the first-half, en route to six points in the game.

The Knights play their second home game of the season versus Quinnipiac University on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m.
