Women's Volleyball Falls to Central Conn. in Three Games

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University in three games (30-18, 30-28, 30-18) on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils improve to 12-3 on the season and 3-0 in the conference, while FDU falls to 10-15 overall and 0-2 in the NEC.

CCSU entered the second game with the 1-0 lead. Both teams battled back and forth until the score was tied at 28-28 and Central posted two straight points to take the game 30-28. The Blue Devils continued the momentum into the third game when Bowden posted three straight points for the home team. The Knights battled back to within six points (21-15), but the Blue Devils held the lead and posted five straight points to post the 30-18 win.

Elena Schmidt led the FDU offense with 11 kills and eight digs. The Knights defense was paced by Karolina Kowalski who had 10 digs on the day. Megan Philbrick recorded nine kills and Rebecca Tenney added eight. Ruth Levy gave out 29 set assists and Tenney notched four blocks.

Chantelle Bowden paced the CCSU offense with 16 kills and 12 digs on the afternoon. Central extended its winning streak to eight straight games. Brynn Good had 45 assists and 14 digs along with six kills. Chelsea Magee notched nine kills and the CCSU defense was paced by sophomore Katie Seamon who posted a team-leading 15 digs.

The Knights take a brief break from conference action against Siena at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 21 and then return to NEC play on Oct. 23 when they host Long Island at 3:00 p.m.
