Â
Rodgers arrives on the Hackensack by way of East Stroudsburg University, where last season, he guided the Warriors to the program's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship since 1987 and earned PSAC Coach of the Year honors.
Â
"We are very excited to welcome Kevin back to the FDU family, this time as our head women's volleyball coach," said Hurlbut. "Kevin has had a great deal of success throughout his coaching career and, most recently, orchestrated a dramatic turnaround at East Stroudsburg where he elevated the program to new heights. Kevin has demonstrated an ability to succeed at all levels and we cannot wait for him to get started."
Â
A New Jersey City University graduate, Rodgers earned a masters in sports administration from FDU in 2015, while serving as an assistant coach at the Florham Campus.
Â
In 2019, Rodgers completed his third season at the helm of the Warriors and led the team to a 29-7 record en route to the conference championship. Making just its second-ever NCAA DII Women's Volleyball Tournament appearance, the Warriors finished with a program record 29 victories including 16 conference wins.
The Los Angeles native took over at ESU in 2017 and led the team to a 17-win season – its first winning record since 2006. Rodgers followed his first campaign by bringing the team back to the PSAC tournament for the first time since 2008 as it logged its first 20-win season in 12 years. The 2018 season saw ESU finish 20-11 overall, including a 7-5 record against teams that qualified for the Division II tournament the previous year.
Prior to joining ESU, Rodgers served as the top assistant coach for Bucknell's women's volleyball team during the 2016 season. He was previously the head men's coach at Ramapo College of New Jersey, an assistant women's coach at FDU-Florham and a head and assistant coach for the volleyball programs at his alma mater, NJCU.
Upon learning the news Rodgers' appointment, head women's volleyball coach at NYU and former assistant coach for Rodgers at Ramapo, Andrew Brown said, "Kevin has had success at every stop of his career, due to his work ethic and passion for the sport. His ability to connect with his student-athletes and create a competitive environment that establishes core values and culture gives them a perfect balance of academics and sport."Â
While at Bucknell, Rodgers assisted with all aspects of the Patriot League program including a heavy emphasis on recruiting. Prior to Bucknell, he spent four season leading the men's squad at Ramapo, accumulating an overall record of 83-57 and a conference record of 49-9.
Rodgers also worked as the head girls' volleyball coach at Central Volleyball Academy from 2012-14, coaching eight future Division I players. The team was ranked fourth out of 70 squads in the Garden Empire Volleyball Association in the 17s division in 2013 and moved up to second out of 49 in the 18s division the following year.
As an undergrad, Rodgers racked up more than 1,250 kills and 1,000 digs. He currently ranks second all-time in kills (1,297) and fourth in digs (1,014). The Gothic Knights were 71-55 during his four years, with three postseason appearances, and Rodgers was a two-time All-NECVA Metro Division performer.
Rodgers is the eighth head coach in the FDU volleyball program's 41-year history.
