David Downey, CSCS, MEd joined the Knights in August 2019 and begins his first year as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance in 2021. Since taking over strength and conditioning, FDU has earned five NEC titles including men’s soccer, women’s indoor track, women’s bowling, women’s golf and men's tennis. Â
Downey spent five years at Lafayette College starting as an intern in 2014 before ultimately ascending to his position as assistant director. Highlights include four individual track and field Patriot League Champions, 2019 men's golf Individual Champion, assisting in 2015 Maroon Club Weight Room redesign and introducing functional range conditioning across the department. He is an NSCA certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach, Crossfit Level 1 and NASM Golf Fitness Specialist.

Prior to working at Lafayette, Downey interned at Moravian College and Princeton University. A 2013 graduate of Rutgers University, Downey majored in Exercise Science and minored in Nutrition. He also holds a Masters of Education degree in Positive Coaching from the University of Missouri.Â
