The Fairleigh Dickinson women’s soccer team and head coach Eric Teepe announced the addition of Tim Verschuren as a new assistant coach for the Knights in February 2019.
Verschuren began his post with the Knights in February and brings over a decade of experience coaching at the collegiate, club and development academy and international levels to the program.
In 2019, the Knights posted an overall record of 9-6-6 and concluded conference play undefeated with a mark of 7-0-3. FDU reached the NEC Championship game for the third time in program history after defeating Bryant in the NEC Semifinal 2-0. Verschuren helped coach a Knights defense that posted eight shutouts during the season. He also assisted with All-NEC First Team Performers Amanda Fitzgerald and Christa Waterman as well as the development of freshman Maja Skansberg who earned All-NEC Rookie Team Honors.
“We are very excited to add someone like Tim,” head coach Eric Teepe said. “His experience as both a scout and a coach will be invaluable to our growth as a program. He has proven himself at all levels and will do so here at FDU as well. We are eager to start training with him on the sideline.”
Verschuren is currently the Academy Director for the STA Girls Development Academy, based in Morris County, N.J., and part of the U.S. Development Academy program, where he oversees player and staff development, recruiting, creating club-wide initiatives as well as coaching different age groups within the academy. During his six years with STA, the program won a State Cup championship in 2014 and made the finals in 2016 and 2017. Nationally, the program has achieved National Premier League championships in three of the last four years and twice earned US Club Mid-Atlantic Regional championships (2016 and 2018).
Since May, Verschuren has also worked with U.S. Soccer as a scout while also running training centers in New Jersey and surrounding states. In the past seven years, he has also been on staff for collegiate camps held at Butler, New Hampshire and Duke.
The Poortugaal, Netherlands native, previously served as an assistant coach at NJIT from 2013-2015, helping guide the Highlanders in 2013 to at the time their best record in a season in their Division I era with an 8-10-1 finish. During his tenure at NJIT, Verschuren helped guide Jenny Cislo to earn Division I Independent Defensive Player of the Year and Arianna Gerber to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. With Verschuren on staff, NJIT also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award in two of his three seasons.
Verschuren has coached at the club level in New Jersey ranging from U7 to U18 for various New Jersey club teams in Somerset and Morris Plains since 2009 after coming to the United States from Holland. Internationally, he has served as a volunteer coach and youth program leader in both the Netherlands and in South Africa.
Verschuren has attained a USSF “A” Youth License as well as a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He graduated from University of the Hague in the Netherlands in 2009 with a degree in sports management. He and his wife, Kelly, currently reside in Flanders, N.J.
