Zak Boisvert comes to FDU after spending one season as an assistant coach at Iona, where he assisted in leading the Gaels to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2013.
“Zak is a tireless worker and a young coach who has established tremendous recruiting ties throughout the entire metropolitan area and beyond,” Herenda said. “In addition, Zak has a great basketball mind and will be a great addition to our program.”
Prior to coaching at Iona, Boisvert spent one year with the Hoop Group, a basketball instruction organization in Neptune, N.J. With the Hoop Group, Boisvert directed the organization's grassroots basketball division, working with the nation's premiere AAU basketball clubs. He coordinated and organized the Under Armour Championship Series events: The Hoop Group Jam Fests in both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
Boisvert was also at Iona during the 2010-11 season, serving as the Gaels’ recruiting coordinator after graduating from Fordham in 2010. In the role, Boisvert was also responsible for video exchange, film breakdown, academics, and practice and game planning. Iona posted a 25-12 record and appearances in both the MAAC and CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament championship games.
At Fordham, Boisvert served as a team manager for four seasons, where he assisted the staff in team travel, recruiting coordination, video exchange, individual workouts, and day-to-day program management. Along with his duties at Fordham, Boisvert spent his summers working several camps around the Northeast, including Hoop Group, Five-Star, and Hoop Mountain.
“I’ve known Coach Herenda for a long time and what’s most impressive is his commitment to the development of student-athletes not only on the court, but off the court as well,” Boisvert said. “I’ve long-admired the passion in which his teams play with, his work ethic and his family-oriented approach.”
The Portland, Maine native is a 2010 graduate of Fordham and 2006 graduate of Deering High School.
Iona head coach Tim Cluess on Coach Boisvert: “Zak is a hard working, up-and-coming basketball coach with a great mind. He is a true student of the game and is passionate about basketball. Zak does a great job with individuals and is good with x’s and o’s. He will work hard at FDU and will become a great coach. Zak was a big part of our program and we are really happy for him.”
Hoop Group president Rob Kennedy on Coach Boisvert: “I have been very lucky and fortunate to work with a number of really hardworking, passionate basketball people at the Hoop Group but none has worked harder and more passionate than Zak. He is a relentless recruiter and a tremendous student of the game. He was very instrumental in Iona’s success, and I think he will have the same type of success at FDU.”
