John Cooley arrives at FDU after a three-year stint as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Susquehanna University. At Susquehanna, Cooley coached 1 all region, 13 all conference, and 2 rookie of the year award winners, while also winning a conference championship in 2019. From 2019 to 2020 in the COVID shortened season, Cooley’s staff saw an improvement in almost every category, most notably team ERA which dropped by over a full point. In February 2021, Cooley obtained his CSCS from the National Strength and Conditioning Association to better help his athletes in the weight room and on the field.
As a player, Cooley began his career at SUNY Westchester and was a member of the first ever team to make the D2 JUCO College World Series in Enid, Okla. Cooley then made his way to Susquehanna University where he was a member of the baseball team from 2016 to 2018. During the 2016 season, Cooley was named to the All-Conference team, along with helping lead the team to a program record 33 wins and finished one-win shy of the NCAA Division III College World Series. Cooley also served as a team captain in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
