TEANECK, N.J. – Two second-half goals for Sacred Heart (2-3-2) earned them a 2-1 win against the FDU Knights (5-1-1). After being on the winning end of multiple comebacks, the Knights broke under the pressure of the Pioneers, who handed FDU their first loss of the season.
The Knights controlled the early stages of the game and had the majority of chances in the first half, despite being without their two captains for the evening,
Gabriel Le Guen and
Ryan Kopay.
In the 38th minute, substitute
Dominic Valenzuela delivered another assist for the Knights, his second of the season. His cross found
Joshua Bartels after a flick-on from
Jeremie Pelade, with Bartels finishing the move to score his first goal as a Knight. Pelade recorded his second assist of the season on the play, which gave FDU the lead going into the break.
The Knights ended the first half with 8 shots, while the Pioneers managed only 4.
A few tactical changes shifted the momentum over to Sacred Heart after the 60-minute mark. They continued to put pressure on the Knights' back line, eventually leading to two goals. Ivan Morcillo found the equalizer in the 78
th minute, with Brady Poor scoring the go-ahead goal just two minutes later. Poor now leads his team in points with 8 so far this season.
The Knights will look to find their form once again against the Penn Quakers on September 19, 6 P.M., at Macron Stadium in Teaneck, New Jersey.
