SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – FDU softball dropped a mid-week doubleheader to Seton Hall on Wednesday afternoon.
FDU took the first lead of the doubleheader, as
Ayden Stone ripped an RBI double to left in the third inning. In the circle,
Sierra Albright held things down for FDU, holding the Pirates scoreless into the third inning. Seton Hall did their first damage in the third, taking the lead back from FDU on a two-run double. Both teams continued to go back and forth. FDU tied the game back up in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by
Sophia Ayala. The game remained tied 2-2 until the bottom of the fifth, when the Pirates put together another rally against Albright. Seton Hall's Andrea Perez hit an RBI double to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead. The Knights would trail until the seventh inning, down to their last out. With runners on the corners, a wild pitch allowed
Finley Caringer to score, tying the game at three. The Knights then loaded the bases, but were unable to capitalize further and take the lead. In the bottom half of the seventh, the Knights' comeback fell short, as Seton Hall's Lea Kosinski launched a solo home run over the left field wall, walking off the Knights.
The Pirates used their momentum from the walk-off win to pounce on the Knights early in game two. Seton Hall scored nine runs in the bottom of the first to put FDU in an early hole. The Knights were unable to spark the offense in game two, getting just two hits off Seton Hall starter Sami Wakeley. The Pirates would add two more runs in the third to pad the lead. FDU would fall in five innings by a final score of 11-0.
FDU returns home for a weekend NEC series against Saint Francis U. The Knights and Red Flash will kick off the series with a Friday afternoon double-header starting at 1 p.m. Coverage will be available on NEC Front Row.
