STONY BROOK, N.Y. – FDU softball dropped a road double-header against Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon.
Fresh off her first career save, FDU sent
Katie Simonka out for the start to open the double-header. The Knights fell behind 2-0 early after a two-run homer by Stony Brook's Rachael Brown. The Knights would put together a rally in the second inning to tie things back up at two.
Mikayla Conklin laced an RBI single, followed by a bases-loaded walk from
Madison Rishel. The Seawolves would quickly pull back ahead, however. Stony Brook plated two runs in the second, two runs in the third, and one more in the fourth, building a 7-2 lead. The Knights would record just one hit from the second inning on. Another rally by Stony Brook in the sixth inning plated three more runs, ending the game by a score fo 10-2.
FDU sent reigning NEC Pitcher of the Week
Madison Dollard out to the circle for game two. Dollard was hit early by the Stony Brook offense, allowing two runs in the first inning. After that, the sophomore settled in. Dollard would allow just one more run throughout the game, pitching six innings of three-run ball while striking out three. Unfortunately the Knights could not give Dollard any run support thanks to dominant pitching from Stony Brook's Jayci Finch. FDU tightened the score to 2-1 in the fifth inning, after
Finley Caringer stole home. Finch shut down the Knights otherwise. FDU recorded just four hits in the loss, falling in a 3-1 final.
FDU will begin conference play on Saturday, March 14, when they travel to face CCSU. The Knights will play a double-header in New Britain, Conn. starting at 1 p.m. Coverage will be available on NEC Front Row.
