CHICAGO, ILL. – FDU women's basketball (12-4, 3-0) picked up a road conference victory over Chicago State (1-15, 0-3) on Thursday evening. The Knights won by a final score of 91-64.
FDU started off the game a bit slow on the offensive end, unable to find the deep ball. The Knights shot just 2-of-14 from range across the first half, and were unable to pull away from a feisty Chicago State team that shot efficiently. Despite being down their leading scorer in Aiyanna Culver, the Cougars hung with the Knights for the first twenty minutes. Chicago State shot 51.8% from the field in the first half.
When halftime rolled around, FDU held just a 37-34 lead. However, some key halftime adjustments quickly changed things. FDU erupted in the third quarter, scoring 38 points across the ten-minute stretch. The Knights shot 12-for-15 from the field in the quarter, as well as 12-for-15 from the free throw line. FDU ballooned their lead to a 26-point advantage heading into the final quarter.
Chicago State hung around in the fourth quarter, but could not shorten the Knights' lead past 22 points, allowing FDU to head out of Chicago with their third conference victory of the season.
- FDU's offense was well spread out in the victory, with six different players scoring in double figures.
- Ava Renninger led the way with 15 points.
- Renninger also grabbed five rebounds and dished five assists.
- Kailee McDonald and Rebecca Osei-Owusu each scored 14 points.
- Akeelah Lafleur, Reese Downey, and Bella Toomey all scored 11 points off the bench for the Knights.
- FDU shot 55.7% from the field on the night.
- FDU out-rebounded Chicago State 39 to 25.
FDU returns home for their first NEC contest in Hackensack of the 2025-26 season. The Knights have their first-ever meeting with New Haven on Saturday, January 10 at 2 p.m. Coverage will be available on NEC Front Row.
