NEWARK, N.J.- The Knights once again played on the road this season, with their journey taking them to NJIT. The Highlanders (5-5) bested the Knights (2-4) in four sets.
Jamal Ellis and Rayjan Suarez-Palacios recorded service aces in the contest.
Laydon Biro put the Knights ahead early 2-1, courtesy of a
Jackson Pool assist. The Highlanders then propelled themselves ahead 10-4.
The Knights kept the affair close, with Biro and
Dylan McFadden recording succeeding kills. The knights trailed 15-12. NJIT strung positive runs together to secure the first set 25-20.
After trailing out of the gate in the second set,
Jamal Ellis tied the affair 3-3 with an outside kill. After keeping the early set close 6-5, the Highlanders rattled off six of the next seven points as FDU trailed 12-6.
Brendan Pho and Suarez-Palacios worked together on a pair of kills midway through the set, to cut into NJIT's 14-10 lead.
The Knights kept the score close with a
Dylan McFadden kill to onl trail by three, 22-19. The Highlanders held on, taking the second set 25-20.
The teams exchanged points in the early goings of the set. With the score tied, Suarez-Palacios locked in a service ace to put the Knights ahead 7-6.
After NJIT tied the contest 12-12, McFadden strung together back-to-back kills, which were topped off by a Highlander attack error to situate FDU with a 15-12 lead.
With a two point lead late, the Knights capitalized off two errors by the home team and a
Jamal Ellis ace to extend the lead 20-16.
Panagiotis Kourmouzos put FDU in striking distance with a late kill, while the set was capped off by another Highlander attack error. The Knights won set four 25-21.
After the Knights jumped out 2-1, the Highlanders fired off a five-point-run to lead 6-2.
Following another long run by NJIT, the Knights began to cut into the lead with a Biro kill to cut the deficit down 11-4.
After Ellis recorded his fourth kill of the set, the Knights were down 16-11. NJIT only allowed one more kill by the Knights the rest of the way, as they won the final set 25- 16.
The Knights host AIC on Feb. 7, with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
