HACKENSACK, N.J. - #4 FDU (12-19, 8-8) will host #5 Stonehill (15-16, 7-9) in an NEC quarterfinal on Wednesday night in Hackensack. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
This is the third matchup this season between FDU and Stonehill. The Knights have won each of the first two meetings by double-figures. This includes last Thursday when FDU earned an 82-69 win on their home floor. The Burgundy and Blue lead the all-time series 5-1 and have swept Stonehill in each of the last two seasons.
It will have to be a bounce-back effort for the Knights, who dropped their regular season finale 74-55 to LIU last Saturday. The Knights could not find their rhythm from behind the arc, shooting 2-18 on three-point field goals. LIU took advantage of this by draining seven triples of their own. FDU overcame ten turnovers in the first half and took a 32-31 lead into halftime. They scored 20 of their 32 points in the paint. They also held LIU to under 33% from the field in opening period. LIU took the lead and slowly pulled away in the second half. They limited FDU to just 8-27 from the field and caused eight more turnovers in the game's final 20 minutes.
FDU enters the postseason with two all-league honorees on their roster.
Terrence Brown was named First Team All-NEC and won the Most Improved Player award.
Bismark Nsiah earned a spot on the NEC All-Defensive squad.
Dylan Jones, the league leader in threes, will also play a huge role in FDU's postseason outcome.
Stonehill defeated Le Moyne at home to close out their regular season campaign. This snapped a three-game skid. Skyhawks guard Hermann Koffi was just named the NEC All-Rookie on Tuesday afternoon. He averaged nearly ten points per game in conference play and shot 36.8% from beyond the arc. Louie Semona and Todd Brogna were named to the all-conference second and third teams, respectively. Semona averaged 16.8 points per game in league play.
The winner of this matchup will advance to Saturday's NEC semifinal round.
