HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU softball (9-11, 2-1) began Northeast Conference play against LIU (7-17, 1-2) this past weekend. It was an impressive start to conference play for the Knights.
The Knights fell 10-2 in the first game of the series. FDU simply could not overcome an offensive explosion from the Sharks, who made things tough on FDU starter
Brooklyn Shroyer.
Madison Rishel had a good day for the Knights, and picked up an RBI triple to put across one of the Knights' runs. The loss was game one of two of a Saturday double-header.
Game two of the double-header resulted in a big win for the Knights – their first of NEC play in 2025. It was an offensive explosion for FDU in game two, as they flipped the script on LIU. The Knights emerged victorious with a 11-2 win.
Brianna Holguin,
Angela Costa,
Celeste Quezada, and
Erika Barela all shone for the Knights. The quartet of Knights combined for eight runs, each driving in two apiece. In the circle, FDU got another impressive outing from
Julia Swan. Swan pitched five innings, striking out eight, and giving up just one earned run on five hits.
The offensive mojo continued for the Knights into Sunday's rubber match. FDU picked up an 8-4 win to take their first series of NEC play. Swan shined again for the Knights, picking up a second win behind 4.2 innings in the circle.
