NEC Semifinal Preview: #1 FDU vs. #6 Chicago State

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (27-3, 16-0) continues their hunt to "take the throne", as they host #6 Chicago State in Hackensack for an NEC semifinal match-up on Thursday night. Tip-off will come at 7:00 p.m, with coverage available on ESPN+.

FDU currently rides a 20-game win streak into the match-up against Chicago State. The Knights will look to keep it rolling in what has been the best season in program history so far. FDU's current win total of 27 is a franchise record, breaking the previous record of 24 set in 2022-23.

The Knights finished the regular season with a 16-0 record in NEC play, becoming just the seventh team in NEC history to finish a regular season with an undefeated record.

FDU advanced to the NEC semifinals following a 73-44 victory at home over #8 LIU on Monday, March 10. The Knights got a memorable performance out of Teneisia Brown in the effort. Brown dropped 28 points and grabbed ten rebounds for her tenth-straight double-double. Her 28 points led all scorers in the game – Brown was also the only Knight to score in double figures.

On the flipside of the bracket, Chicago State advanced to the NEC semifinals following a major upset in their quarterfinal matchup. The #6 seed Cougars took down #3 CCSU by a score of 70-60 in New Britain, CT. Josie Hill was the star for Chicago State in the upset. Hill scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, recording game-highs in both categories.

To add to the stakes of the game, both teams will also be playing for the NEC's auto-bid to the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. The other side of the bracket in the semifinals features #5 Le Moyne and #2 Stonehill. Both programs are ineligible for NCAA postseason competition due to being in the transition period to Division I. As a result, the winner of FDU-CSU will be awarded the automatic bid with a semifinal win.

One team will be dancing after the final buzzer sounds in Hackensack on Thursday night. The Knights will seek to be that team – and punch their first ever ticket to the big dance – following tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
