DELAND, FL – FDU softball (0-5, 0-0) dropped their final game of the Frank Griffin Classic to Binghamton (3-2, 0-0) by a score of 6-1 on Sunday.
The Knights had their best offensive performance of the season to date, collecting nine hits. Freshman Madison Rishel continued what has been a nice start to her collegiate career, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot.
Fellow rookie Kailee O'Sullivan joined Rishel at the top of the lineup, and had a stellar game as well. O'Sullivan went 2-for-3 with a walk, and drove in the Knights' only run on an RBI double in the seventh.
The Knights were simply unable to overcome a hot start from Binghamton's offense. The Bearcats plated all six of their runs across the first three innings, giving themselves an early cushion.FDU was able to shut down the Bearcats for the remainder of the game after that.
MaryJane Limon had a stellar relief appearance for FDU. Limon pitched 3.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk.
FDU will next turn their attention to Morgan State, as they head to Baltimore to face them in a three game set starting on February 22.
