STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – FDU women's basketball (18-3, 8-0) takes on Wagner (5-16, 2-7) on Saturday afternoon in Staten Island. Tip-off comes at 4:00 p.m. with coverage available on NEC Front Row.
The Knights will be hunting to take sole possession of the program record for best start to conference play. No FDU team has begun an NEC schedule with a 9-0 record. With a win, head coach
Stephanie Gaitley will also take sole possession of 16th place on the all-time NCAAW DI wins leaderboard. She is currently in a tie for 16th with legendary Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder.
FDU will seek to use momentum from a great road win on Thursday, February 6. The Burgundy and Blue went into New Britain, CT and took down CCSU by a score go 61-52 their last time out. The Knights picked up the big victory thanks to several key performers.
Abaigeal Babore stayed red hot in conference play, leading the team with 16 points. Babore is averaging 12.9 PPG across FDU's eight NEC contests, the second-most on the team.
Teneisia Brown continued what has been a dominant season to help with the win as well. Brown dropped her seventh double-double of the season, tallying 12 points and 15 rebounds. The Knights also got a 15-point performance out of the reigning NEC Co-Player and Rookie of the Week in
Ava Renninger.
The Knights will look to complete a season sweep against Wagner on Saturday afternoon. The two teams last met in FDU's NEC opener on January 4. The Knights emerged victorious in that contest in Hackensack, taking down the Seahawks 75-49. Babore led the Knights in scoring in that win, and four separate Knights scored in double figures.
Wagner heads into this match-up standing at 2-7 in conference play. The Seahawks are led by a dynamic backcourt comprised of graduate students Julia Fabozzi and Taleah Washington. Fabozzi leads the team in scoring with 16.2 PPG, and is joined closesly by Washington, who averages 14.3 PPG. The Seahawks are coming off of a 3OT loss their last time out against LIU on February 6. Fabozzi dropped a league-high 40 points in that match-up.
