Gerke's 23 Points Lead Knights to 72-41 Win Over Hornets

HACKENSACK, N.J.- FDU (3-3) defeated Delaware State (2-4) in a 72-41 victory on Hoops for Troops night at the Bogota Savings Bank Center. The Knights never trailed throughout the contest that aired on the Yes Network.  
 
The Story

FDU scored the first 12 points of the evening, with five different Knights scoring during the run. Madlena Gerke responded with back-to-back three pointers to make the score 18-2. Delaware State was stifled by the FDU defense, being held to five points and turning the ball over four times throughout the quarter. The Knights led 22-5 after 10 minutes.

Neither team was able to put points on the board until just over two minutes into the second quarter. FDU was the first team to connect, with Bella Toomey making a play in the paint. During the second quarter, the home squad collected 12 rebounds as they held the visitors to 12 points.The Knights took a 38-17 lead into the intermission.     

After giving up the first two points of the third quarter, Gerke was able to respond with another three pointer. A Kailee McDonald three pointer ignited a 13-point run by the Knights. In the final minute, Reese Downey and Leah Crosby combined for five points as FDU carried a 63-28 lead into the fourth quarter. 

Jada Elston scored the final FDU point of the night as the Knights won their second home game of the season 72-41. 
 
The Stats: 

Madlena Gerke was a playmaker for the Knights as she led the squad with 23 points.
  • From beyond the arch, she converted a team best six times. 
  • She also recorded three rebounds, two blocks, and a pair of steals. 
Leah Crosby recorded a double-double for FDU, as she put up 10 points and collected 11 rebounds. 
  • Crosby went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line
What's Next:

The Knights travel to NJIT on Tuesday, November 25th. The game is set for a 6 p.m. tip-off on ESPN+.
