HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (1-2, 0-0) defeated Bloomfield (0-1, 0-0) by a score of 92-60 on Monday night. The game served as the home opener for the Knights.
Prior to the game, the Knights held a ceremony honoring the 2024-25 NEC Championship Team. The team received their championship rings, and a banner was hoisted in the Bogota Savings Bank Center. FDU alumni, including
Abby Conklin,
Abaigeal Babore, and
Allie McGinn all were in attendance for the festivities.
FDU opened the game on fire, scoring 13 unanswered over the first three minutes of regulation.
Madlena Gerke was involved in the offense early, scoring six of FDU's first 13. Bloomfield found some offensive momentum to close the first quarter, and FDU went into the second quarter ahead 26-16.
The Knights pulled away further in the second quarter. FDU out-scored Bloomfield 20-11 in the frame to take a 46-27 lead into the half. Gerke continued to pour in the offense in the second quarter, adding another eight points to her total. She entered the half-time break with 16 points to lead the way for the Knights.
FDU put the game away in the third.
Ava Renninger led the way to open the second half, scoring 13 points in the third quarter. Renninger went on a 9-0 run all by herself in the quarter, knocking down three triples in the span of one minute. The Knights controlled the game through the fourth as well, ballooning their lead to the 92-60 final.
- Madlena Gerke led the charge for FDU, scoring a game-high 24 points.
- Gerke added seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals to her statline.
- The Latvia native converted five three-pointers.
- Gerke's 24 points is a career-high at the collegiate level.
- Ava Renninger poured in 22 points of her own in the victory.
- Renninger dished out seven assists to boot.
- The sophomore hit five threes of her own in the win.
- Kailee McDonald had a nice night on the offensive end, socring 12 points on 5-8 shooting.
- McDonald grabbed six boards as well.
- Leah Crosby flirted with a double-double, scoring ten points and grabbing nine boards.
- The Knight lit it up from downtown, knocking down 16 threes as a team.
- FDU dominated the glass, winning the rebounding margin 48 to 29.
