BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – FDU men's soccer forward Jaime Barbero was named the NEC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It is the first Player of the Week award Barbero has won in his career.

The Valencia, Spain native picks up the honor following an incredible stretch of play. In a 2-0 week for the Knights, Barbero scored two goals to help the Knights stay atop the NEC table. 

Barbero's first score came in dramatic fashion against New Haven on October 2. In the 82nd minute, Barbero received a pass from Arnau Rabassa Guillamon and sent home a strike to break a scoreless tie. The goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 victory for the Knights.

Barbero stayed hot in the Knights' Sunday afternoon match against Chicago State on October 5. The senior scored the opening goal in a 4-0 Knights victory. Barbero has now scored goals in three straight games, stretching back to FDU's 4-0 victory over CCSU on September 28. 

The four-point week from Barbero helped the Knights climb to a 3-0 record in NEC play, pacing the conference. 

Barbero was also named an NEC Prime Performer for his red-hot week. Joining Barbero in the Prime Performer ranks was Matheus Franca. Franca has helped the Knights pick up five shutouts in net this season, including in each of the Knights two wins this past week.

FDU will be back in action on Sunday, October 12 when they host LIU in Teaneck. Kick-off will come at 12 p.m, with coverage on NEC Front Row.
