Women's Soccer Ties Program Record for NEC Wins

TEANECK, N.J. – FDU women's soccer (8-5-3, 8-0) tied a program record with their eighth NEC win on Sunday afternoon. The Knights continued their unbeaten streak in conference play with a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis U (0-11-4, 0-6-2).

FDU produced 11 shots in the first half, but none resulted in a goal. Their dominance in terms of possession stifled any chance of the Red Flash creating a scoring opportunity. The visitors did not produce a shot in the first 45 minutes.

"We had great possession in the first half, but did not really create anything," said head coach Eric Teepe. "We talked at halftime about being more dangerous and fighting a little harder. I thought coming out of the gate we did that."

The Knights finally broke through courtesy of Andrea Ougaard in the 51st minute. The senior captain connected on a screamer from just outside of the box to beat the SFU goalkeeper. It marked the fourth goal of Ougaard's season.

Less than three minutes later FDU's pressure in the attacking third resulted in the Red Flash netting an own goal. FDU led 2-0.

In the 74th minute, Nadia Wojcik connected with Katia Cardaba for the match's dagger. Wojcik crossed a ball into the box that Cardaba headed in for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Wojcik, who was credited with an assist on the goal, has now recorded points in back-to-back matches. These matches also marked her first two starts of the season.

The Red Flash's lone shot of the match resulted in an 83rd minute goal, which cut the deficit to 3-1. FDU outshot SFU 23-1 when it was all said and done.

FDU's is now seven points ahead of LIU, Howard and CCSU for the top spot in the NEC. The Knights will have a chance to clinch the regular season title on Thursday at Wagner.
