STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The FDU softball team took on the Wagner Seahawks and improved to 20-27 on the year.
Brooklyn Shroyer took the mound and shut the Wagner offense down for the first four innings. She recorded five strikeouts and allowed no hits while only walking one batter.
In the initial two innings, the Knights had two promising chances to tally a run with a base runners on third base and only one out in the first two innings. FDU was unable to capitalize on these opportunities and convert them into runs on the scoreboard.
FDU scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single from Megan Berg that scored Finley Carringer to secure the lead.
Wanger recorded their first hit of the game on a softly hit infield single. That was no problem for Shroyer as she forced two ground outs to end the inning.
The Knigths loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth inning but could not add any insurance runs.
Shroyer kept the Wagner offense off the board in the sixth and seventh while striking out four batters to bring her total to 11 on the day. This marks her 15th start with 10+ strikeouts, 21st complete game, and fourth no-run complete game as she improves her record to 16-12 on the season.
The Knights will head back to Staten Island to face Wagner in a doubleheader tomorrow, May 4th, starting at 12 PM. The team aims to close out the season on a positive note.
