Knights Complete Sweep Over Wagner, End Season on Six-Game Win Streak

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The Knights took the final two games of the three-game series with Wagner and end the season on a six-game winning streak.

Game 1

FDU Jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a SAC-Fly from Abbey Hoesman that scored Isabella Herring.

Wagner scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a two-run lead.

In the third inning, Hayden Salter drew a walk with bases loaded to bring in a run for FDU. Angela Costa then hit an RBI single into left field to tie the game at 3-3.

The Knights took the lead in the bottom of the fourth through a bunt single from Megan Berg which scored Sophia Ayala. Ayden Stone stepped up to the plate with two runners on and hit her team leading 7th homer of the season over the left field fence to make it a four-run ballgame.

The Knights added some insurance runs in the sixth thanks to Costa's second RBI single of the game. The pitcher Julia Swan then gave herself another insurance run to work with as she recorded her first collegiate hit into right center field that scored Hayden Salter.

Wagner tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a three-run game, but Swan shut the Seahawks down in the seventh to lead the Knights to their fifth consecutive win.

Swan tossed her sixth complete game while striking out two batters and only allowing six hits.

Game 2

Wagner and FDU found themselves in a pitching duel between Brooklyn Shroyer and Zavala who both pitched outstanding games.

Brooklyn made quick work of the Wagner offense in the first three innings as she set the first nine batters down in order while striking out six. With her sixth strikeout of the game, she hit the remarkable 250 strikeout mark on the season, a first in FDU history.

FDU struggled to get the offense going in this game as they recorded two hits in the first inning but zero in the next three.

Shroyer continued to deal in the fourth inning after giving up her first and only hit of the game to the first batter of the fourth who tripled to right center. This was no issue for Shroyer as she sat the next three batters down in order, stranding Tran at third.

Brooklyn continued to mow down the Wagner lineup through the sixth inning as the Knights could not get their offense going.

In the top of the seventh, Costa and Swan drew walks as the first two batters of the inning. Erika Barela then hit the go-ahead RBI double off the left field fence to give the Knights their first lead of the game.

Shroyer recorded her 7th strikeout of the game in the seventh while keeping Wagner of the board to secure FDU's sweep over Wagner and end the season on a six-game winning streak,

Brooklyn improved her record to 17-12 on the season and threw her 22nd complete game of the season, another FDU record for Shroyer. She now leads the nation in strikeouts with 251 with her season coming to a close.
