HACKENSACK, N.J. -In the opening match of a weekend tripleheader, the Knights clashed with LIU on the diamond.
Brooklyn Shroyer assumed pitching duties for FDU, delivering a stellar one-two-three inning against LIU in the initial frame.
Despite loading the bases early on, FDU couldn't convert the opportunity into runs, as Celeste Quezada grounded out sharply up the middle to second base.Â
LIU struck first with a solo shot over the left field wall by Polemeni, giving them an early lead in the second inning.Â
A fielding error in the fourth then allowed Cuffie to capitalize for LIU, driving in an unearned run with a well-placed single to right field.
FDU managed to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning courtesy of a solo blast from Megan Berg, marking her inaugural homer of the season.
Despite a valiant effort to level the score, the Knights came up short, falling 2-1 in a tightly contested bout.
The Knights aim to rebound as they face off against LIU in a doubleheader set for 12 PM on April 7th at FDU Softball Field.
