HACKENSACK, N.J.- The Knights honored four graduating players on senior day including Andreya Flores, Megan Berg, Abbey Hoesman, and Brandi Mitchell. In both games, the Knights fought from behind to secure the sweep on senior day as they improve to 18-27 on the season.
Brooklyn Shroyer stepped onto the mound for the Knights and retired the first 12 batters she faced while striking out six through the initial four innings of play.
In Abbey Hoesman's initial at-bat following her recovery from an injury, she picked up right where she left off with a single up the middle in the second inning.
FDU was able to secure four hits in the first four innings but couldn't convert any of them into runs.
Stonehill took the lead in the fifth inning through an infield single.
The Knights quickly responded thanks to Riley Cunningham who hit her first career homer in the fifth to give FDU a one run lead.
Stonehill regained the lead in the sixth inning through two RBI singles from Conte and Sullivan.
The Skyhawks added an insurance run in the seventh.
Hayden Salter and Erika Barela put together two greats at bats in the bottom of the seventh to put the tying runs on board for the Knights. Andreya Flores was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Megan Berg stepped up to the plate in a big spot and delivered a clutch two-RBI single up the middle to tie and extend the game into extra innings.
Shroyer shutdown the Stonehill offense in the eighth inning and recorded to strikeouts for her 10th and 11th K's of the game
With the first pitch of the eighth innings, Adyen Stone ended the game by hitting a walk-off home run, her fifth of the season, and second walk-off home run of the season. This secured a 5-4 victory for the Knights.
Stonehill had a big second inning and scored six runs to make it a 6-3 ballgame.
Salter secured another RBI in the second inning with a bunt single which plated Berg. Angela Costa grounded out into a fielder's choice but secured an RBI on the play. Sophia Ayala leveled the game with her first career RBI, connecting for a single down the left field line that brought Angela Costa home.
Brooklyn Shroyer entered the game in the fourth inning after throwing an eight inning complete game in game one. Shroyer retired the side while recording a strikeout for her 12th of the day.
Shroyer continued to dominate the Stonehill lineup while not allowing a run in the next two innings.
FDU took the lead for the first time in the sixth inning thanks to an Erika Barela solo home run, her third of the season.
Shroyer again shut down the Stonehill offense in the seventh inning while recording three strikeouts to record her 17th strikeout of the day and secure two wins as the Knights defeated The Skyhawks in game two by a score of 7-6.
The Knights will play their final match up against Stonehill tomorrow, April 28th scheduled to start at 12 PM.
