HACKENSACK, N.J. – St. John's visited Hackensack and handed the Knights two losses on Tuesday afternoon. The visitors took game one 1-0 and then narrowly won game two by a score of 3-2. With the losses FDU falls to 16-27 on the year, while St. John's improves to 25-23.
GAME ONE
Freshman
Brooklyn Shroyer took the mound and was dominant once again for FDU. The righthander scattered five hits and allowed just one run in a complete game loss. Shroyer struck out 11 in the game, bringing her season total to 212.
St. John's lone run came in the sixth inning.
The Knights got three hits in game one from
Isabella Herring,
Megan Berg, and
Andreya Flores. They put a runner in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings but were not able to push across a run.
Loreley Francia delivered a complete game shutout on the mound for the Red Storm.
GAME TWO
Julia Swan took the mound for the Knights in game two and put together a quality outing. She went seven innings, scattering four hits, three runs (one earned), while walking three and striking out two.
The Knights offense woke up in the bottom of the second inning.
Finley Caringer singled up the middle and brought
Sydney Newton across the plate.
Sophia Ayala produced her first career hit in this inning.
The Red Storm responded with two runs in the third and then tacked on another in their half of the fifth.
Berg singled to start the sixth inning for the Knights and was eventually driven in off a single from Herring to cut the Red Storm lead to 3-2.
FDU went down in order in the seventh.
The Knights managed six hits in game two, including two from Herring.
