VALHALLA, N.Y. - The FDU Knights (13-21, 9-8) took on Manhattan (11-23, 4-8) in a midweek matchup resulting in a 6-2 defeat for FDU.
Jeremy Cheeseman started on the mound for the Knights pitching three full innings striking out two of the 12 batters he faced. He ended his day on the mound with a 1-0 lead over the Jaspers. The first run of the game came as a result of a
Hunter D'Amato infield hit.
The Jaspers answered back in the fourth inning where they put three runs on the board as a result of a lead-off single and a double to follow putting two runners in scoring position. These two runs were driven in off a single down the left field line by Trevor Hansen. Hansen later scored the third run of the inning after moving around the bases to be hit in off another single giving Manhattan a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
The Knights narrowed in of the Jaspers in the sixth inning as a result of a lead off single from
Brian Sanders who moved around the bases to third from a throwing error and contact off the bat of
Ben Avila. Sanders scored with
Luke Russo in the box due to a wild pitch. The Knights still trailed the Jaspers 3-2.
Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't find any other answers as the Jaspers found ways to tack on three more runs to close the game with a 6-2 Knights loss.
We saw
Nicholas Feretic,
Jake Simon,
Ben Pika and
Nate Dudeck make relief appearances pitching the final five innings. They collectively tallied six strikeouts in addition to Cheeseman's two.
The Knights managed to pick up eight hits and ten walks in today's game. Sanders and Russo picked up multi-hit games with two hits each. Cheeseman,
Justin Sierra and
JR Bozek all recorded one hit each.
