Knights Drop Final Game Against Sacred Heart

HACKENSACK, N.J.-The Knights concluded their three-game series against Sacred Heart with a loss in the final game.

How It Happened

Sacred Heart gained an early lead, exploiting a fielding error that propelled Bender to third base. Caroll then capitalized on the opportunity, driving Bender home with an RBI single.

Despite getting their first two runners on base via walks, the Knights couldn't convert, as the next three batters were retired in order.

Brooklyn Shroyer showcased her prowess on the mound, retiring the side in order in the second inning and securing her third strikeout of the game.

Celeste Quezada's single to right field, followed by a bunt from Isabella Herring, advanced Quezada to second base, but the Knights couldn't capitalize, leaving Quezada stranded.

Shroyer continued her dominance, retiring the side in the third inning.

Megan Berg leveled the score with a homer in the third, her second of the season.

Shroyer's stellar pitching kept Sacred Heart's offense in check, giving the Knights a chance to win in the seventh, with the score tied at 1-1.

In the seventh, Isabella Herring reached base on an error, and Zoe Valdez pinch-hit for the Knights, contributing a single to put runners on first and second. However, the next two batters couldn't bring in the winning run, sending the game into extra innings.

Shroyer struck out the first batter of the inning and hit the next, before striking out the second batter for her 10th strikeout of the day. This is her fifth straight performance with 10+ strikeouts while allowing zero earned runs. Despite her efforts, two errors allowed Sacred Heart to score their second run.

The Knights went down in order in the eighth inning, resulting in a 2-1 loss.
