Knights Split Series With Albany

JACKSON, N.J. - The FDU softball team split their Friday series against Albany, emerging victorious in the first match-up but falling short in game two.

Game 1

Brooklyn Shroyer took the mound for the Knights and immediately found her rhythm. Despite surrendering a double to the first batter, Shroyer struck out the next three, shutting down Albany's offense.

The Knights seized the lead in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of a three-run homer launched by Ayden Stone. This marks Stone's second home run of the season.

Shroyer maintained control over Albany's offense until the fifth inning when Petty connected for a two-run homer, with one of the runs being unearned.

The Knights continued in their pursuit of insurance runs, loading the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning. Angela Costa stepped up to the plate with a chance to extend the lead. Although Costa made solid contact, Albany's defense remained sound, ultimately escaping the jam.

Shroyer took the mound for the final two innings and continued her dominant performance. She shut down the Albany offense in route to a 3-2 victory for the Knights.

Brooklyn finished the game with 11 recorded strikeouts, marking her fourth game this season with double- digit strikeouts. Shroyer now has a 6-3 record on the year.

This marked the seventh game for the Knights where both teams scored three runs or fewer. FDU boasts an impressive 6-1 record in these tightly contested matches, all of which were decided by just one run. Additionally, the Knights hold a remarkable 7-1 record in games decided by a single run, underscoring the resilience and determination of the squad.

Game 2

The Knights found themselves in an early hole allowing seven runs within the first four innings.

FDU finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning, courtesy of Angela Costa's situational hitting. With Hayden Slater positioned on third base, Costa grounded out to first, allowing Slater to cross home plate and put the Knights on the board.

Olivia Christopoul recorded the first hit of her collegiate career in the fifth inning with a slap single down the left side.

The Knights allowed another two runs to cross the plate in the sixth inning extending the Albany led to eight runs.

The game ended in the sixth inning after FDU wasn't able to close the gap.
