Box Score 2 BRONX, N.Y. - The Knights headed to the Bronx, N.Y. as they faced the Fordham Rams in a midweek doubleheader.
The game started with a captivating pitcher's duel unfolding on the mound.
Freshman pitching sensation Brooklyn Shroyer showcased her talent by striking out four batters in the opening two innings, effectively keeping Fordham at bay.
In the pivotal sixth inning, junior Angela Costa shattered the deadlock with a homerun. Costa not only broke the opposing pitcher's no-hitter but also secured the first home run of her season for the Knights. The Knights found some momentum and capitalized by loading the bases. Erika Barela drew a walk, and Riley Cunningham used heads up baserunning to steal home, further extending the Knights' lead to 3.
Shroyer surrendered an RBI double to Wells but was not fazed. She regained her composure and closed out the inning without allowing another run.
Entering the seventh inning, Fordham posed a minor threat by getting the leadoff batter on base. However, Shroyer swiftly managed to secure an out with a pop-up, and the Knights' defense executed a flawless double play to conclude the game.
Shroyer's stellar performance included 10 strikeouts, marking her third consecutive game with double-digit strikeouts. With this win, Shroyer improved her pitching record to 7-3 and helped the Knights bring their win-loss record back to .500%
Fordham jumped out to an early 2-0 thanks to a Koratsis two-run homer.
The Knights had a great chance to score as Zoe Valdez and Finley Carringer both singled with no outs.Valdez advanced to third base on Carringer's hit, and Carringer followed with a stolen base to put the Knights in a prime position with runners on second and third. Fordham managed to escape the inning unscathed as FDU could not to find a way to score.
The Rams added on two runs in the second inning to extend their lead to four.
Freshman MaryJane Limon came into relieve Junior Julia Swan in the third inning as Fordham tacked on three more runs.
The Knights could not find a run as the Rams continued to run away with the game.
Fordham sealed the game in the fifth inning with a powerful three-run homer, bringing the final score to 10-0.
The Knights kick off conference play with a three-game series against Central Connecticut State, beginning on March 16th at 1:00 PM in New Britain, Connecticut.
