HACKENSACK, N.J.- The Knights took on Quinnipiac in a weekend doubleheader at FDU Softball Field.
In the third inning,
Erika Barela made a significant impact with a powerful solo homerun over the right field fence, the first of her career.
Quinnipiac responded swiftly in the 3rd inning, with Woeste also launching a solo homerun to tie the score.
As the game progressed, FDU regained the lead in the 5th inning through Andreya Flores, who executed a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Finley Caringer to score. Shortly after, Sydney Newton's groundout to shortstop drove in another run, further solidifying FDU's lead.
In an impressive pitching performance, Brooklyn Shroyer displayed exceptional control on the mound. Over 7 innings, Shroyer allowed only five hits and one earned run. Shroyer showed remarkable command as she issued just one walk while striking out an impressive total of nine batters. Shroyer improved her record on the year to 9-5
The Knights took an early lead in the first inning thanks to Erika Barela who hit a two-RBI single that scored Ayden Stone and Olivia Christopoul.
FDU secured another run in the second inning when Sydney Newton hit an RBI single into right field that scored Megan Berg.
Quinnipiac scored their first one of the game in the fourth inning thanks to aggressive baserunning. Hochstadter stole second which allowed Walker to score on the throw down to second base.
FDU added another insurance run in the fourth through Sydney Newton who hit a powerful two out double into right center that scored Christopoul.
Julia Swan took the mound for the Knights and had a great performance. Over seven innings, Swan showed superb control and precision, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out seven opposing batters. Swan's ability to consistently hit her spots and keep hitters off balance proved instrumental in keeping the opposing team's offense in check.
The Knights continue NEC play on Tuesday as they head up to Syracuse, N.Y. to face Le Moyne in a doubleheader on Tuesday, starting at 1 P.M.
