FAIRFIELD, Conn. - FDU men's basketball (13-15, 7-6 NEC) fell to Sacred Heart Thursday 99-91 inside the William H. Pitt Center. FDU was down as many as 21 points in the second half, trailed by 13 at the half and came within as few as seven inside 30 seconds.
Senior guard
Joe Munden Jr. (Harlem, N.Y./Monsignor Scanlan) led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field with six rebounds. Munden matched his career best with five made three-pointers.
FDU turned the ball over 16 times in the first half and shot 1-for-9 from the free throw line in the opening stanza. Sacred Heart converted those 16 turnovers for 39 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Knights held Sacred Heart to just three made triples in the final 20 minutes after allowing nine buckets from downtown in the first half.
The last minute and change saw FDU record nine points on nine free throw attempts as the Knights closed-in on the Pioneers' eight-point lead.
Five Knights finished the road game in double figures, including senior forward
Sean Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) who ended his night with 19 points a career-high 14 rebounds with nine coming off the offensive glass. This is the sixth double-double of the season for Moore.
Sacred Heart leading scorer Nico Galette, among the top in the Northeast Conference, was held to 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting while Kyle McGee finished with 21 points and a game-high eight field goals to pace the Pioneers.
