Box Score 2 San Diego, Calif.- On day two of the LaJolla Invitational the FDU Knights faced UC San Diego in a double header. Here is how the games played out.
Game 1
UC San Diego dominated the game with precision plays and clutch hits, securing a solid victory.
The bottom second inning kicked off with a bang as Williams, G smashed a single down the left-field line, bringing in a run as DeMarse crossed the plate. Mulligan hustled to third, setting up a prime scoring opportunity. Eng drew a walk that forced in a run, with Mulligan crossing home plate. This pushed Williams to third and Richards to second. O'Gorman, stepped up in a big moment and sent a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Williams to tag up and score to make it a 3-0 ball game.
In the bottom of the third Richards hit a booming triple to right-center, bringing in Erickson. Hermosill kept the momentum going with a sharp single up the middle, bringing Richards home to make the score 7-0.
The Knights scored their first run of the year in the fourth inning after Ayden Stone reached on an error and brought Andreya Flores home.
In the bottom of the fourth Mulligan continued the offensive onslaught with an impressive triple to right field that scored a run. Williams contributed again, grounding out to first but still managed to bring Mulligan home which made the score 9-1.
The Knights could not manage to score any runs in the fifth inning which ended the game.
Game 2
In an exceptional display of pitching prowess, Freshman Brooklyn Shroyer took center stage and delivered a masterclass performance on the mound for the FDU Knights.
Shroyer's command of the strike zone was evident as she issued only two walks while striking out 11 opposing batters. Her dominance was further emphasized by allowing just one earned run despite facing nine hits throughout the game.
With precision and finesse, Shroyer kept the opposing batters off balance, consistently hitting her spots and generating swings and misses. Her performance on the mound was stellar as she propelled the team to victory.
The Tritons scored the first run of the game in the 3rd inning from a double down the left field line that scored O'Gorman to make it a 1-0 game.
The Knights scored their first run of the game in the 4th inning from aggressive baserunning. Isabella Herring stole second and Sydney Newton scored from third base from a throwing error by the catcher to tie the game at 1-1.
FDU scored again as they capitalized in the 8th inning. Brandi Mitchell stole second and Celeste Quezada scored on the play to take a 2-1 lead.
Brooklyn Shroyer took the mound in the 8th inning and closed it out by striking out the last batter for her 11th of the game to record her first collegiate win.
