Women's Basketball Preview: FDU vs. Dominican

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU Women's Basketball kicks off their regular season Monday at 7:00 p.m. against the visiting Dominican University Chargers. FDU will look to start off their campaign to #runitback in a season that will see them return 81% of their minutes from last season, as well as their entire starting five from last season.

HOW TO WATCH

Fans will be able to stream the game on NEC Front Row. Dan Long will describe play by play action live from the Bogota Savings Bank Center in Hackensack, N.J.

NUMBER ONE

The Knights have been unanimously selected atop the NEC in the 2024-25 Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. It is the first time in program history that FDU has been selected as the number one team in the preseason conference poll.

#RUNITBACK

FDU heads into the 2024-25 season with some of the most roster continuity in the nation. The roster features ten returners from last season, including each member of the starting five. A whopping 81% of FDU's minutes return, as well as each of the top-five scorers from last season. FDU will look to use their lasting chemistry to compete for an NEC title.

VERGE OF HISTORY

Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley heads into the 2024-25 season just two wins away from the 700 win milestone in her career as a collegiate coach. Gaitley currently ranks as the 17th winningest head coach in NCAA Division I women's basketball history. Her coaching career which started in 1985 has included stops at Richmond, Saint Joseph's, LIU, Monmouth, and Fordham.

HIGH HONORS

FDU was represented by three players on the 2024-25 Preseason All-NEC Team. Graduate students Teneisia Brown and Abby Conklin received honors, as well as the lone underclassman on the All-NEC team, sophomore Staci Williams. Brown returns to the Knights following an All-NEC First Team campaign last season, where she led the Knights with 12.6 PPG and 8.0 RPG. Conklin, the reigning NEC Most Improved Player, comes back to Hackensack following a 2024-25 season that saw her lead the Knights in assists. Williams will look to follow up a freshman campaign where she led the team in 3PT%, and was named to the NEC All-Rookie Team.

LAST TIME OUT

FDU is coming off of a win in their season-opening exhibition on October 25th against Bloomsburg. The Knights escaped with a 59-51 victory on their home court in Hackensack. Coach Gaitley tested a variety of rotations in the exhibition matchup, spreading minutes out across the roster. Each of the 15 active Knights on the roster made an appearance in the exhibition match.
