Box Score CHICAGO, ILL. – FDU women's volleyball returned to the NEC Championships for the third time in three years, facing new NEC addition Chicago State on the Cougars home court. Despite a strong effort by the Knights, CSU was able to come away with a sweep of the Knights for the Championship title.
Off to a slow start, the Knights couldn't seem to find any kind of rhythm in set one. The Burgundy and Blue logged just eight kills on the set, struggling to find a consistent way to score against a scrappy Chicago State squad. Graduate student
Eleonora Tosi led the offensive charge, tallying three kills for the Knights, however, a fired-up Cougars team took set one with a commanding 25-16 victory.
Set two started off similar for the Knights, who struggled both offensively and defensively. Despite a better hitting performance, unforced errors plagued the Burgundy and Blue, who tallied five service mistakes and six attacking errors. Finding themselves down 7-14 early, FDU could not make up for the early deficit and dropped set two 17-25 to go down 0-2 in the match.
Set three saw a more energetic performance out of the Knights, who gave their best offensive effort of the night. The improvement was not enough to stifle a red-hot Chicago State squad however, as the Cougars capped off their dominate night with a 25-19 set three victory to take the match and NEC Championship title.
