Bain Leads the Charge as Knights Hand Chicago State First NEC Loss

HACKENSACK, N.J.  – In an intense matchup on Saturday afternoon, FDU emerged victorious over Chicago State in a thrilling four-set battle. The Knights claimed the win with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, and 25-13. This victory bolstered FDU's already impressive season record, bringing them to 13-9 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

FDU opened strong in the first set with a 25-20 win, capitalizing on solid blocking and an efficient front row. Avery Bain and MacKenzy Ruggiero led the charge, converting kills and keeping Chicago State's defense on its heels. Momentum continued into the second set, where the Burgundy and Blue widened their lead with a commanding 25-17 victory. Chicago State struggled to find an answer for FDU's well-rounded offense, as the Knights kept the pressure high.

The third set saw a shift as Chicago State fought back to take a close 25-22 win. Patrycja Lagida and Zahara Quraishi stepped up offensively for the Cougars, logging eight of CSU's ten kills. However, in the fourth set, FDU regained control and stifled Chicago State's momentum, finishing the set 25-13 and sealing their victory.

The Knights were led by Bain, who tallied 14 kills, two digs and two blocks. Defensively, the Burgundy and Blue was led by freshman Angela Marchetto, who logged 7.5 blocks. Senior Emily Van O'Linda provided a strong defense, totaling a team high 19 digs.
