Women's Basketball Looks to Stay Hot on Road Against Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – FDU women's basketball (4-0, 0-0) heads on the road for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Syracuse Orange (1-2, 0-0) at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 17. The game will be available on ACCNX.

The Knights charge into battle against the Orange riding strong momentum, following their best start to a season in over 30 years. The team currently holds a 4-0 record, a start FDU has not seen since the 1991-92 season, when they began 8-0. The 1991-92 season was the last time that FDU won the Northeast Conference Championship.

As the Knights head on a quest to continue repeating the feats of that 1991-92 season, they will have to get through their first high-major contest of the season in the form of Syracuse. The Orange have began their season with a 1-2 record, and will head into the contest looking to bounce back from an 84-73 loss against #11 Maryland in their last showing.

Head coach Stephanie Gaitley and the Knights are coming off of a 67-56 home win over Bucknell on Wednesday, Nov. 13. FDU got a great performance out of their starting five in that matchup, with 63 of their 67 points coming from the starting lineup. That game also featured the first career start for freshman Ava Renninger. Renninger, the reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, has been a dynamic player for FDU in her early college career. She leads the team in scoring with 13.8 PPG.

Teneisia Brown will also look to be a big factor for FDU heading into the affair. Brown, the reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week, ranks second on the team with 12.8 PPG, and leads the team with 8.5 RPG.

On the other side, FDU will have the task of trying to shut down dominant Syracuse guard Georgia Woolley. Woolley leads the Orange with 18.0 PPG across the team's first three games of the season. Woolley has also been excellent from downtown, converting on 46.7% of her three-point attempts this season. Syracuse as a whole poses a threat from deep for FDU. The Orange shoot the ball at a 45.7% clip from deep as a team.

COMING SOON

After squaring off against Syracuse, the Knights will head on the road for another high-major opponent, traveling to face the #2 UConn Huskies on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The Knights will then return home to host Saint Peter's on Saturday, Nov. 23; that contest will be broadcast on the YES Network.
