NORTH EASTON, MASS. – FDU women's volleyball opened their last weekend of play with a sweep of Stonehill earlier today. The win marks the 20
th victory in the season, the most in recorded program history.
Set one proved to be all Knights offense, as a hot hitting FDU squad tallied 14 kills and just three errors. An early 6-1 lead proved to be essential, as the Skyhawks quickly found a rhythm after their slow start. The rest of set one saw back-and-forth action, as neither team found the momentum to pull ahead. Tied at 21-21, it was a block and kill by freshman
Angela Marchetto that propelled the Knights to a set one victory of 25-21.
With confidence, the Burgundy and Blue surged forward in set two, logging 13 kills, two aces and three blocks. Sophomore
Avery Bain led the charge, tallying three kills to lead the Knights. Finding the momentum in their hands, FDU took set two 25-18 to secure a 2-1 match lead.
In the third set, FDU's serving power shone through with junior
Kylie Nott and Tosi contributing to the five services aces on the set. Senior and reigning NEC/Molten Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Van O'Linda proved to be essential, as her defensive efforts helped solidify the Knights control on the set. Stonehill struggled to keep pace, logging six blunders and four service errors. FDU's relentless offensive pressure and strong defensive play widened the gap, and the set ended decisively at 25-15.
As a team, the Knights logged 37 kills and just seven errors on the night, for a hitting clip of .366. FDU was led by Bain, who tallied 12 of those kills with a hitting percentage of .500. Defensively, Van O'Linda led the charge, totaling 19 digs.
